Reviewer, Jeb Dunnuck - Reminding me of a Chardonnay from Mark Aubert in Sonoma, Lato's 2013 Chardonnay Belle du Jour Hilliard Bruce Vineyard has gorgeous richness and ripeness in its white flower, brioche, toasted nut and apple blossom-laced bouquet. This gives way to a fabulous Chardonnay that has bright acidity, a full, rich mid-palate, and a seamless texture that carries beautifully pure fruit . This is another wine that makes a mockery of all the low-alcohol, overly acidic Chardonnays that seem to be the rage these days. While the most elegant and silky of the Chardonnays, it has terrific fruit intensity and is a joy to drink. I'd lean toward drinking bottles over the coming 4-5 years, but I'm sure it will evolve nicely for longer. Drink Date: 2015 - 2020.

Reviewer, Jeb Dunnuck - At the top of the heap with regard to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Santa Barbara County, Paul Lato continues to focus on small yields and tiny production cuvees from his base in the Santa Maria co-op. While the rage these days is harvesting early and chasing Burgundy-like textures and flavors, Paul’s wines make a mockery of this approach and offer sensational texture, purity and freshness, without giving up on the incredible fruit that makes California so special. They’re made in tiny qualities, but don’t miss these 2013s; this is the best vintage from Paul to date. They’re well worth the extra effort the track down. Drink Date: 2015 - 2020.

Additional Information

Varietal :
Chardonnay
Probably the world's most famous grape, and also one of the most versatile, Chardonnay produces excellent white wines in a range of styles. When aged in oak, Chardonnay exhibits buttery, vanilla and sometimes nutty flavors. Unoaked examples are crisp and fruity, with green apple or tropical flavors. Chardonnay is the grape used to make White Burgundy, Sancerre and Chablis, and may also be used to produce Champagne. View all our additional Chardonnay items
Region :
California
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
