Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Reviewer, Antonio Galloni - Paul Lato's wines are imbued with passion and personality. This is another superb set of wines from one of California's hottest under-the-radar producers. This year, Lato has two new wines; a Chardonnay from Hilliard Bruce (for whom he also consults) and a Grenache from the Larner Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. All of these wines are made in tiny amounts, but they are well worth the effort of searching out.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Reviewer, Antonio Galloni - The 2010 Grenache Lumiere Larner Vineyard is drop-dead gorgeous. Layers of juicy red berries, flowers and mint flesh out in the glass as this deeply expressive wine shows off its considerable pedigree. The 2010 is deep, round and polished from start to finish. This is Paul Lato's first Grenache, and it is impressive. The wine shuts down quickly in the glass, but it is dazzling just the same. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.

Winery Notes
Winery Notes:
This is my inaugural vintage of Grenache. Fortunately, I was able to source from a vineyard which is justly famous for this difficult yet extremely rewarding varietal. Bright, translucent red-cherry color. Fragrant sour-cherry-and-smoked-plum nose with crushed-stone accents. An elegant wine of medium body, layered with red fruit, spicy oak, and "garrigue" nuances. Silky textured, yet well structured and long on the palate, more pinot-esque than syrah-like. Only two barrels made, 50% New French oak, unfiltered.

Additional Information

Varietal :
Grenache
This red wine grape is probably the most widely planted grape in the world. Used primarily for blending, Grenache (known in Spain as Garnacha) lends a fruity, spicy character to famous wines like Chateauneuf du Pape from France's Rhone region and GSM (Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah) blends from Australia. Grenache favors hot, dry climates and can reach high sugar levels, which make it ideal for fortified wines like Banyuls and Vin Doux Naturals. View all our additional Grenache items
Region :
California
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
