Stephen Tanzer's IWC
Inky ruby. An explosively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, black tea, licorice and smoky Indian spices. Lush, palate-staining black and blue fruit flavors show noteworthy intensity and focus and pick up a floral pastille nuance with air. Finishes broad and sweet, leaving smoke and licorice notes behind.
Winery Notes
Winery Notes:
Very dark crimson purple. Nearly opaque. Explosive aromas of blackberry, graphite, and spring flowers. Really blossoms with air. The wine enters smoothly, displaying plenty of black and blue fruit with a note of violet. Quite suave and sophisticated on the palate with caressing tannins on the finish. A beautifully balanced cool-climate Syrah that has a long, long life ahead of it.
Winery Notes
Winery Notes:
Although our Jemrose fruit is usually bottled on its own as “Cardiac Hill”, we found that in this vintage, blending with Syrah from Steiner Vineyard created a better wine. Both vineyards were picked near the very end of harvest on October 21st. Approximately 20% of each lot was not destemmed. After 19 days on the skins, each lot was pressed to French oak, 35% new, and then blended after malolactic fermentation. Unfined and unfiltered.

Additional Information

Varietal :
Also known as Shiraz in Australia and South Africa, Syrah makes intense, deep wines with plenty of spice, fruit and alcohol. It thrives in warm climates, and is widely grown in Australia, California, and the Rhone region of France, where it makes Cote Rotie and Hermitage, and forms the backbone of Chateauneuf du Pape. Sub-Region :
Sonoma County
More than twice the size of neighboring Napa, Sonoma County overflows with wineries and grape varieties. Within this appellation’s one million total acres--which include the Sonoma coast, mountains, valley, and Northern Sonoma--over 190 wineries make their home. Nearly every grape variety grown in California can be found in Sonoma County. Diverse climate, soils and geography make this AVA a patchwork of sub regions, including Dry Creek Valley, Chalk Hill, Russian River Valley and Los Carneros. View all our items from Sonoma County
Region :
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
