Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
These two distinctive efforts include the 2008 Syrah Il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard, which comes from the Estrella clone. Fully destemmed and aged in 100% new French oak, it is a beautifully made, full-bodied, inky/purple-colored wine exhibiting notes of graphite, creme de cassis, blackberries, minerals, and spice box with just a hint of oak in the background. It offers layer upon layer of fruit as well as a powerful, rich, yet elegant style. Drink this beauty over the next decade or more.

Winery Notes
Winery Notes:
Four years into a revolutionary viticulture under the brilliant care of Chris Hammell, vineyard manager, and his dedicated crew, my small hillside parcel produced outstanding grapes. This wine was vinified in 100% new French oak of the highest quality. This syrah was co-fermented with 5% viognier. This is a classic wine. It possesses violet flowers, black olive tapenade and church incense on the nose, with an intricate tone of blackberries. It is mid- to full-bodied with good structure and refreshing acidity that counterbalances the ripeness. It possesses a long finish and silky texture within a firm, youthful frame. It is a very expressive wine, reaching for profoundness, and will drink well soon but also improve in the cellar for 10 years plus. Enjoy. Two barrels made. 100% new French oak.

Varietal :
Syrah
Also known as Shiraz in Australia and South Africa, Syrah makes intense, deep wines with plenty of spice, fruit and alcohol. It thrives in warm climates, and is widely grown in Australia, California, and the Rhone region of France, where it makes Cote Rotie and Hermitage, and forms the backbone of Chateauneuf du Pape. Region :
California
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
