Syrah
Also known as Shiraz in Australia and South Africa, Syrah makes intense, deep wines with plenty of spice, fruit and alcohol. It thrives in warm climates, and is widely grown in Australia, California, and the Rhone region of France, where it makes Cote Rotie and Hermitage, and forms the backbone of Chateauneuf du Pape.

Washington
30 years ago, less than a dozen wineries were in the game of making Washington State wines. Today, more than 450 wineries call Washington home. The reason? Vintners have finally discovered the state’s potential for growing fine wine grapes that match (and possibly exceed) the quality of California grapes. The relatively dry climate, extra sunlight hours during the growing season, and long autumn for slow, optimal ripening all mean great things for Washington State wines. See fine examples from wineries like Chateau St. Michelle, Chester Kidder and Canoe Ridge.
