The 2008 Howell Mountain continues to exhibit the greatness I predicted for it last year. Deep blue and black fruits intermixed with spring flower, graphite and crushed rock characteristics, a steely structure and good tannin result in a sweet, flawless, opulent wine to drink over the next 20-25 years.

The 2008 Howell Mountain has a much lower percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), blended with 23% Cabernet Franc and the balance Petit Verdot and Merlot. Another sexy, opulent, exuberant 2008, it offers up notes of sweet black fruits intermixed with roasted coffee, graphite, black raspberries, blueberries, melted licorice, and spring flowers. This showy, succulent wine does not yet reveal the tannic structure usually found in a Howell Mountain wine, but that should emerge with further barrel aging.

Reviewer, Antonio Galloni - The 2008 Howell Mountain is fabulous. Blackberries, savory herbs, graphite and mint are some of the nuances that are woven together in a fabric of notable class and sheer personality. The tannins are quite firm and suggest the 2008 will require considerable patience. Readers who can wait will be treated to a superb wine. The 2008 Howell Mountain is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 9% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033.

California
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
