Wine Enthusiast
The aromatics on this wine are so inviting. This is a huge Pinot, young, dry and sappy at this time, with grape, cola, rhubarb, black cherry and rosehip tea flavors, set off by crisp acids and silky tannins. Despite the size, it maintains a complex elegance. It’s very good now, but will benefit from a few years in the bottle.
Wine Spectator
Tight and compact, yet offers a broader range of flavors, with rich black cherry and blackberry fruit and hints of anise and cedar. Finishes with a long, intricate aftertaste. Drink now through 2012.
Connoisseurs' Guide
We have become accustomed to Klopp Ranch offerings as the ripest and fattest wines in the winery's portfolio, but, in this outing, the wine is firmer and more tannic that expected and, like its partner from the Meredith Estate, is structured and cries out for age. It may be a bit tough for near-term consumption, but it is well-fruited and never austere with a long, black-cherry finish that signals good things to come five years down the line.
Winery Notes:
Big, beautiful and intense on the palate, with mouthwatering flavors of dark fruits and haunting echoes of violets and roses, this captivating wine expresses a bold character and a long, sublime finish. With all its weight and personality, the wine has sensational aging potential.
Here is a perfect partner for longsimmered lamb shanks or roast tenderloin of venison with blackberry sauce. At home I often serve Klopp Ranch Pinot Noir with a plate of aged, artisan cheese and a bit of triple cream or blue as a delicious climax to a wonderful meal.
