Wine Spectator
Shows a very ripe nose, with rose, berry and hints of meat. Full-bodied and powerful, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Massive yet balanced. What a wine. The greatest Saffredi ever made. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Alicante. Better than previously reviewed. Best after 2012.

Wine Enthusiast
Saffredi is one of the most exciting super Tuscans of the year. The blend is Cabernet, Merlot and Alicante and the results of underscore the immense potential of Maremma. The wine is vibrant, intense and sprightly with an outstandingly complex offering of pristine aromas: ripe cherry, floral essences, red apple and subdued almond.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Reviewer, Antonio Galloni - Le Pupilles 2004 Saffredi is a remarkable wine, in fact the aromatics alone are worth the price of admission. This French oak-aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Alicante possesses stunning harmony as layers of plums, blackberries, toasted oak, mint and flowers emerge from its vibrant, structured frame. The tannins are remarkably polished. From start to finish, this beautifully sculpted wine is a high class effort from proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti and oenologist Christian Le Sommer. It is highly recommended. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

Region :
Italy
As the world’s top wine-exporter, Italy is an important wine region both because of the amount and quality of wines produced. Just two grapes—Nebbiolo and Sangiovese—are used to make some of the finest Italian wines, including Barolo, Brunello de Montalcino and Chianti. Still, Italy is home to dozens of wine grape varieties, with important wines being made from Corvina, Barbera, Cortese, Moscato and traditionally French varietals. The major wine regions include Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Campania and others. Most producers follow the government-regulated DOC classification system, with a few notable exceptions including the esteemed “Super Tuscan” producers. View all our items from Italy
