Tremendous depth of fruit right from the start, with layers of freshly crushed blackberry, fig paste and currant confiture, all carried by seamless, fine-grained tannins while truffle and cocoa notes fill out the background. Enthralling finish is stretched out by underlying minerality and exotic spice notes, but still remains firmly planted in its terroir. Drink now through 2030. 350 cases made.Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The luxury cuvee, the inky/blue/purple-hued 2003 Hermitage Les Bessards (4,200 bottles; 13.6% alcohol), exhibits a huge perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, licorice, and scorched earth. With superb richness, magnificent intensity, and a full-bodied, tannic finish, it will benefit from 5-10 years of cellaring, and should age for 30+ years.Wine Enthusiast
Incredibly rich, velvety-textured and long, this is a great example of Hermitage from a superripe vintage. It's dense like fruitcake without being excessively heavy, and boasts such a panopoly of nuance as to be spellbinding, ranging from spice and herb to black olive and espresso. Wow! Drink now - 2025.Additional Information

Northern RhoneFrance’s Côte du Rhône wine region is divided into north and south, with the north producing excellent red and white wines from Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. Producers in Côte Rôtie, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage among others often blend Syrah with 10-20% of the white wine varieties to mellow the wine and enhance its aromatic qualities. These wines can age for decades, and are known for their green olive and smoky bacon aromas. |

FranceThough French wines are the highest valued wines in the world, esteemed wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne were only enjoyed locally until 150 years ago when transportation improvements made them widely available. French wine production is governed by a strict quality-control system, which regulates the grapes used in each region and classifies wineries according to an elaborate cru hierarchy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc are just a few of the important grape varietals with roots in French soil. |
