Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The 1999 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is a profoundly rich, concentrated, classic vin de garde. Made from 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the remainder a blend of other varietals, it is one of the blackest, most opaque-colored Beaucastels of the last decade. The bouquet offers aromas of licorice, roasted meats, black cherry and blackberry fruit, and a truffle-like earthy note. Broodingly backward, formidably endowed, powerful, and extremely tannic, it will require 8-10 years of cellaring, and should age effortlessly for three decades or more.

Reviewer, Neal Martin - First tasted May 2001. More open on the nose than Beaucastel 1998. Quite leathery, rustic. Smooth tannins. A nuttiness here. Not as powerful as 98. Lovely integration though with an intense finish. Then in Nov-04 in London. I was very impressed by this wine that would suit those that prefer a more feminine, elegant Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Blueberry, violet and a whiff of black truffles on the nose. Very harmonious on the palate, great focus. Not as muscular as the 1998. Blackberry, pain grille with a touch of sweaty saddle. Great definition. I was won over by this wine. Could drink now, but it will improve over the next 3-4 years.

Reviewer, Robert Parker - The Hedonist's Gazette - A great performance although initially the nose is However, it was quickly forgotten by a very good 1999 Beaucastel Ch√Ęteauneuf du Pape. Its clean, black raspberry and currant fruit notes were intermixed with hints of new saddle leather, earth, and truffles. Although more austere than such riper vintages as 1998 and 2000, it is a medium-bodied, beautifully made Ch√Ęteauneuf. All in all, this was a fine evening of impeccable cooking and brilliant service.
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
The prodigious 1999 Beaucastel boasts aromas of blackberry fruit intermixed with cassis, licorice, roasted meats, leather, and truffles. While it does not possess much fat or precociousness, it displays definition and elegance. This is a full-bodied, concentrated, classic Beaucastel. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025.
Winery Notes
Winery Notes:
Tasting : A deep red nearly black color. The nose is quite mature with notes of brandy, marc and wet wood. The mouth gives off notes of under-wood, quite light and slightly un-balanced at this stage but not aggressive and it has a very good length. This wine must be kept in order to give it time to balance out.

Region :
Though French wines are the highest valued wines in the world, esteemed wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne were only enjoyed locally until 150 years ago when transportation improvements made them widely available. French wine production is governed by a strict quality-control system, which regulates the grapes used in each region and classifies wineries according to an elaborate cru hierarchy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc are just a few of the important grape varietals with roots in French soil. View all our items from France
