Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Remarkable is the 1998 Barbera d'Asti Ai Suma. This is the quintessential expression of super-concentrated, barrique-aged Barbera that other producers attempt to emulate. Braida's inky black/purple-colored 1998 boasts an explosive bouquet of blackberry and cherry jam mixed with graphite, vanilla, roasted meats, and spice. A sensual, full-bodied, voluptuously-textured offering with extraordinary purity, this is a monumental Barbera. Whether it will improve beyond 5-7 years is open to conjecture, but who can resist its provocative charms? Great stuff!

Region :
Italy
As the world’s top wine-exporter, Italy is an important wine region both because of the amount and quality of wines produced. Just two grapes—Nebbiolo and Sangiovese—are used to make some of the finest Italian wines, including Barolo, Brunello de Montalcino and Chianti. Still, Italy is home to dozens of wine grape varieties, with important wines being made from Corvina, Barbera, Cortese, Moscato and traditionally French varietals. The major wine regions include Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Campania and others. Most producers follow the government-regulated DOC classification system, with a few notable exceptions including the esteemed “Super Tuscan” producers. View all our items from Italy
