The 1997 boasts an opaque black/purple color as well as a gorgeous bouquet of roasted meats, scorched earth, blackberry, creme de cassis, minerals, and toast. The soaring aromatics are matched by a phenomenally intense, seamless palate, with full-bodied opulence, exquisite purity and symmetry, and a multidimensional finish that lasts for nearly a minute. This wine will be delicious when released next year, and will last for 25-30 years. It is a tour de force in winemaking. Drink Date: 2001 - 2031.

As I reported last year, the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Ranch is a perfect Cabernet Sauvignon. It has been in bottle for over a year, and this wine, like all the others, has easily soaked up its aging in 100% new Taransaud barrels. It is a sumptuous, unctuously-textured, fabulously concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon that hits all the sweet spots on the palate, and puts the olfactory senses into overdrive. The wine smells and tastes perfect. It is a compelling effort that one day will be considered part of a small group of elite California Cabernets that may be rewriting the definition of greatness in Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink Date: 2001 - 2031.

st year, the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Ranch had all the marks of a potentially perfect wine. Now bottled, it is a profound achievement. Forgive the cloying winespeak when talking about such an extraordinarily sumptuous, unctuously-textured wine that hits every sweet spot and sensor on the palate. Black/purple-colored with a soaring aromatic profile consisting of jammy blueberry fruit, creme de cassis, smoke, licorice, and minerals, this phenomenally intense, seamless effort has a finish that lasts for more than sixty seconds. Remarkably, it is aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels, but the oak is no more than a subtle flavor component. Extremely full-bodied and opulent, with loads of glycerin and an explosive personality, this is an astonishingly great wine that should be drinkable upon release and evolve for 25-30 years ... at the minimum. Drink Date: 2001 - 2031.

Additional Information

Sub-Region :
Napa Valley
America’s equivalent of Bordeaux, Napa Valley is the most famous winegrowing region in the United States. Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay reign supreme in Napa Valley, but many of varietals are also grown successfully. Wines made from Napa Valley grapes vary greatly depending on the specific AVA or sub region where they are grown. Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Stag’s Leap, Oakville and Rutherford are a few acclaimed sub regions with their own distinct climactic and soil conditions. It is also the home of California “cult wines” like Screaming Eagle, Harlan Estate and Grace Family Vineyard. View all our items from Napa Valley
Region :
California
Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. View all our items from California
