When first overwhelms the taster is the spectacular spicy, cedary, toasty, black-raspberry fragrance that roars from the glass. The 1988 has superb extraction of fruit, is full bodied, and is a rich, classic Pomerol that, while much more forward than Petrus, does have at least 20 or more years of aging potential. Bordeaux is widely considered one of the great wine regions, an assertion reflected in the quality and pricing of Bordeaux wines. Bordeaux is most famous for red wines, but is also home to the exquisite dessert wine Sauternes. Five red grapes are approved for Bordeaux wine production: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot.
